Shimla: With not many contenders for three of the four parliamentary seats in Himachal, the congress screening committee has cleared the names for Chander Kumar for Kangra, former chief minister Virbhadra Singh for Mandi and Dhaniram Shandil for Shimla seat, congress sources disclosed.
The screening committee which met on Tuesday has cleared the three names, said the congressman privy to the development but not authorized to speak to the media.
He said that a panel of three names has been shortlisted for the Hamirpur parliamentary seat.
The names shortlisted at the screening committee will be taken up by the congress parliamentary board, which is scheduled to meet in two days before the first lists of party candidates for the elections are cleared.
While Chander Kumar and Dhaniram Shandil are sitting MPs, former chief minister Virbhadra Singh is being considered the party’s best bet for Mandi seat. The seat was being represented by Pratibha Singh, wife of the former chief minister, who has declined to re-contest it.
