Shimla: Himachal Government has made efforts to strengthen the Right to Vote by introducing Braille Script Electronic Voting Machine for Visually Impaired electors who can read Braille, for the first time to ensure their participation in election process, revealed Chief Electoral Officer, Anil Khachi.
He added that presently the provision of Rule 49 N of Election Conduction Rule, 1961 has also been kept in force under which visually impaired or other physically challenged voters can bring along with them a companion above 18 years of age to facilitate them to exercise their franchise and voters who have their names enlisted in Photo Electoral Rolls are only eligible to cast votes.
