[lang_en]Shimla: Himachal Roadways, the state owned public transport company has been awarded best fuel efficient prize, maximum per kilometer improvement mileage achieved and minimum operational cost among all hill states in the country.
TC Janartha MD Himachal Roads (HRTC) on behalf of the corporation received the awards from transport and national highways secretary Brham Dutt at a function in Delhi , on Wednesday.
Janartha said that HRTC operates a fleet of about 1900 buses on 1967 routes within and outside the state on a daily basis. The mileage clocked is about 1601 lakh kilometers in a day.
The accident rate of the corporation buses was 0.10 per lakh kilo metre which is the lowest among hill states of the country. The corporation added 269 new buses in 2007-2008 and there were about 631 zero book value buses in the fleet.
The MD said that the corporation pays about 32 crores as taxes to the state government and other neighbouring states to run its operations. Commending the HRTC staff, Janartha said that the corporation has bagged the three prestigious awards in consecutive years despite having to run operations in tough geographical areas which are even snow bound.[/lang_en]
