The Delhi Government has released 200 crores for the construction of Renuka dam project in Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh.
The entire 40 MW power produced in the project would come to Himachal Pradesh while the state government would contribute to 200 crores for construction of Power House.
H.P. Power Corporation Limited has been assigned the task of constructing the project at a cost of about 2500 crores. The corporation has been directed to expedite the work on the project and award the main civil work contract by June, 2009.
A project of national importance where Government of India bears 90 per cent of the project cost, the project would supply 23 cumics of drinking water to Delhi during non-monsoon months.
Land Acquisition process to pave the way for the construction work over the 40MW Renuka Hydro Electric Project would be started within a fortnight by the executing HP Power Corporation Limited, which has been entrusted the work of the project, as the Government of Delhi has released first installment of Rs. 200 crore to the State Government to start project work, said P.K.Dhumal.
Besides transferring over 1,000 hectares government land falling under the project area, about 1,000 hectares of private land would also be acquired. He said that most of the land being acquired is barren and uncultivated and best efforts would be made not to acquire much of the agriculture land of the local people.
He said that the state government would ensure that all the affected families were properly rehabilitated and their quality of life improved considerably, besides providing them ample employment and self employment avenues generating out of the project activities.
The project consists of 148-meter high rock filled dam wherein quality material as per the laid down norms would be used for construction work. He further assured the people that their contribution would be rewarded fully and interests protected.
