[lang_en]Shimla: The police today arrested 48 PTA teachers which included 8 women, while the government maintained that gross irregularities in the recruitment process had forced the authorities to recommend dispensing with services of some of them
RM Sharma, district police chief said, 40 of the arrested PTA teachers would be produced in court on Monday and the 8 lady teachers had been bailed out on Sunday itself. The 73 teachers arrested on Saturday were bailed out on the same day, he informed.
A government spokesman said the of the 134 complaints received against recruited PTA teachers from Rohroo area, 63 candidates have been recommend for discontinuation of service.
Rohroo happens to be the constituency of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh.
The spokesman stated that qualifications of candidates were ingroner while making these appointments. Some were appointed with even advertising for the post and some with even holding any interview, he said.
The PTA association has resolved to continue with the protest. Surinder Gazta, general secretary of the association said, “the government is arbitrarily acting against PTA teachers with ulterior political motives and we will continue to fight it.”[/lang_en]
