[lang_en]Shimla: Himalaya International, a Himachal based agri-export company has singed an agreement with Wal-Mart for supply of food products to Bharti Wal-Mart, the Indian subsidiary of the US based world’s largest retailer.
Manmohan Malik chairman Himalaya International disclosed that the company had signed separate agreement with Bharti Wal-Mart and its parent company Walmart for selling its products and undertake “cash and carry operations” in wide range of products at wholesale prices.
He told that initially company products would be sold at 9 Bharti Wal-Mart stores in Punjab ‘ major cities like Chandigarh , Patiala , Ludhiana , Amritsar and Jallandhar.
With expansion of operations Himalaya products would be introduced in all the 100 stores of Bharti Wal-Mart that would be opened in various locations across the country by December next.
Malik said Bharti Wal-Mart would enter the retail business through their mini, major and mega format stores, while Wal-Mart would be looking after the business to business operations, involving supply to retail and kirana (grocery) set ups with a lot of emphasis on the hotels, restaurants and catering sectors.
He said that his company will introduce its products in the Bharti Wal-Mart stores under the brand “Himalaya Fresh”. Himalaya has fixed a target of achieving Rs 25 crore business transactions through Bharti Wal-Mart stores in India during current financial year, said Malik.
The company will introduce milk products like Himalaya yogurts, paneer, Italian cheese, bread, frozen appetizers, mushroom range, packaged Himalayan sweets in theses stores.
Himalaya has already marked out Rs 150 crore investments to set up milk based units in Mehsana district of Gujarat. Supply to southern and western India retail store would be met from the Gujarat unit to reduce transportations cost as well as ensure timely and fresh supply in the retail outlets, said Malik.[/lang_en]
