SFI retain hold over Himachal Pradesh University

Shimla : Students Federation of India (SFI) retained their hold over Himachal Pradesh University winning three of the four position on the Students Central Association body and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarathi Parishad (ABVP) managed to win the vice-president position.

The wet weather did not deter an enthused students community from participating in the polling for the SCA body at Himachal Pradesh University with over 70 percent polling recorded.

Shika Chauhan is perhaps the first girl to win the president election at HPU. The others from the SFI panel who won include Virender Singh as general secretary and Surender Kumar as joint-secretary. Dalip Negi of ABVP was declared winner for the election to the vice-president position. NSUI which also had put up a full panel failed to make its mark

Dominance of SFI was witnessed in the elections to the departmental representatives as the students left wing party won as many as 18 of them. A resurgent Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarathi Parishad (ABVP) won 11 departments. The congress affiliated NSUI feared badly only managing to win 2 departments where as six departments pitched in for independent candidates.

In all 1831 votes of the total of over 2500 were cast. The tight security arrangement did provide a secure environment and the poll was conducted peacefully.

SFI also did sweep the election at the government girl’s college RKMV winning all four posts of President, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary. In the government college of excellence Sanjauli, SFI and ABVP shared the posts by wining two each. At Kotshera, the other government college in the city, 3 positions were won by ABVP and one by SFI.
