Thakur Gulab Singh, the PWD and Revenue Minister said that the state government had prepared a detailed report on the extensive damages caused by the incessant heavy rains during current rainy season in order to financially assist the affected families and speed up the rehabilitation work.
Due to the prolonged rainy season in Himachal, the orchardists and farmers have been hit badly whereas the downpours have also caused heavy damages to property. Some 146 people have lost their lives, said the minister. The State has suffered a financial loss worth 35547.40 lacs. Giving details of district-wise loss to property and damages in the heavy rains the Minister disclosed that district Shimla had witnessed highest amount of losses estimated and assessed at 23532 lacs. He further said that all departments had also been directed to keep strict vigil on relief and restoration works related to them.
