Himachal PWD delays Sanatorium projects

KUMARHATTI: Resentment prevails among the staff of TB Sanatorium Dharampur, 4-km from here following inordinate delay in constructing an administrative block. The old building of block that had also housed OPD was demolished more than 1-year back to construct a new building. The old building was dismantled after it had declared unsafe.

However till now, PWD could not start the construction work of new building despite Sanatorium has deposited Rs. 56-lakh with former. The amount was deposited with PWD in two installments of Rs. 26-lakh and Rs. 30-lakh, revealed well placed sources in Sanatorium. The pleas to start work have also submitted with PWD and Director Health as well on many occasions but of no avail, sources said.

It appeared that nobody was paying any kind of heed to Sanatorium pleas, said sources. In the lack of building the administrative block was currently running from Sanatorium’s Medical Superintendent residence. Similarly the OPD was being operated from ward no 6 that was actually meant for TB patients.

Ironically the PWD has also failed to take action on maintenance work of residential quarters and minor repair and maintenance work for which sanatorium has deposited Rs. 10-lakh and Rs. 1-lakh respectively long time back.

Meanwhile Mr. Madan Gopal Thakur, Executive Engineer, PWD Kasauli said that tender approval for construction of administrative block has received yesterday. The tender would be awarded now soon, he asserted. On the maintenance work he said the work was already going on.
