Chief Minister P.K Dhumal has highlighted the issue of providing minimum 70% employment to the state
youth at all levels in the Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) under its operational and execution projects.
In a letter written to Sushil Kumar Shinde, the Union Power Minister, the CM reportedly said that the state government had called for a report on the employment status of Himachalis in the various hydro electric
projects wherein it was clear that Himachal had not been getting fair representation of 70%. Declaring that the state was an equity partner in the SJVNL ventures within and outside, the government had adopted the New Power Policy which with other conditions makes it mandatory for every power producer to provide at least 70 percent employment to the educated unemployed youth of the state at all levels however SJVNL is not implementing the same. SJVNL which is currently executing 412 MW Rampur HEP, 775 MW Luhri project and 1020 MW Khab HEPs has always been preferred by the state, even in the allotment of future projects.
Besides considering am hydro power training institute in the state to produce skilled manpower, he added that the state government had been extending its best cooperation to the power producers for early execution of the projects in lieu of benefits of both the state and the people.
In the letter he has urged the Union Minister to ask the authorities to recruit local youth as per the fixed policy and make sure to protect both the interests of the state and the people.
