PALAMPUR: It may not be monkey menace but the sudden increase in the number of stray animals in Palampur and its adjoining areas has become a matter of serious concern. One can spot stray animals on any road and needless to mention even the highways.
A number of complaints have been launched till date with the local SDM and Municipal Council but no steps have been taken. These animals have become a problem to residents and especially shopkeepers but also result in traffic chaos and fatal accidents.
Recently, a two-wheeler rider lost his life near H.P.A.U when a cow on his the motorcycle on the Pathankot- Mandi national highway. The number of accidents since last one year have shot up while most of them resulting due to such animals directly or indirectly. The Sabzi Mandi and lower areas of the town have
become centers of stray animals where these can be seen feeding on heaps of garbage, waste fruits and vegetable. The Chief Minister on his visit to the town assured the residents of proper checks but nothing has changed yet.
