Shimla : Singhi Ram, the former horticulture minister in the earlier Virbhadra government and former chairman of the HP School Education Board were today sent to 4 day police custody by the Shimla chief Judicial Court in a forgery and cheating case.
Earlier the court rejected the bail applications of Singhi Ram and Rahi. The two were arrested by the vigilance department yesterday after the court cancelled the interim anticipatory bail that was granted to them in the fake certificate case, which was allegedly procured by Singhi Ram for getting admission for his daughter Upma Kashyap into a prestigious Delhi college.
Another accused in the case Surinder Mahlotra, who was arrested last Saturday, was sent to judicial custody till April 11 by the court.
The court also directed the police to have a medical examination conducted of the accused persons who were being sent to police custody.
The defense council putting up a spirited argument for a bail application pleaded that the accused were in no position to tamper any records or influence anybody for the record was already in possession with the vigilance department. The defense counsel said that the accused being political persons, the police was seeking custody only to harass them.
The prosecution told the court that the investigation was not complete and police custody was needed to establish evidence about the alleged forgery and the accused needed to be taken to Delhi for further investigation.
