Leopard mauls a boy in Hamirpur

HAMIRPUR: Leopard mauled a two and half years old boy at Daratt village of the district last night. The boy named Rishabh was playing with his grandfather, Prem Chand in the courtyard of their house, when a leopard emerged on the scene and forcibly snatched the boy from the grand father. The old man raised an alarm as a result, local villagers gathered at the scene. The boy was found in critical condition in a remote area by the villagers after a long chase.

He was brought to Tounidevi hospital for treatment. However, the boy succumbed to his injuries for want of proper and timely treatment. This infuriated the villagers who resorted to road blockade and rose anti administration slogans. They alleged that the boy died for want of non availability of doctor in the hospital.

Hamirpur SP, Asif Jalal and DFO, Sanjay Sood reached the hospital and persuaded the villagers to stop their agitation. They assured full help and cooperation to the deceased family and added that all out efforts would be taken to nab the prowler.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Chief Minister, Prem Kumar Dhumal has taken a serious notice of the incident as the incident took place in his own assembly segment. He is reported to have sought a complete detail into the incident from the Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner and the Forest department authorities.

Local people have approached the chief minister to save them from the wrath of the leopards moving in their areas and nab the man eater at an earliest.
