Lenovo workers go on strike

KUMARHATTI:A major crisis has surfaced in Lenovo plant at Jharmajri near Baddi today after plant workers went on strike over suspension of 25 Himachalis workers from plant. Led by INTUC the plant workers abandoned the work and came out of plant to stage their protest over workers dismissal.

The trouble started after 25 workers were asked to leave the plant premises in morning. This sudden development has led to resentment among other Himachalis staff of plant that gathered and started slogans against company management.

Sensing trouble the plant management called up the police that forced the fired staff to go out of plant. However things turned in favour of agitated workers as soon as the locally based Mr. G.K. Mehta, state spokesman of INTUC arrived at scene.

Led by Mr. Mehta the workers raised slogan against highhandness of company management to curb workers welfare. Mr. G.K. Mehta, state spokesman of INTUC alleged that company management has fired the workers without giving any prior notice to this effect. No reason has been given behind the decision, he alleged. Before shunting out the 25 workers today, the company has fired others Himachalis in phased manner earlier, he accused.

It was a preplanned plot of company management to throw all Himachalis out of the plant mainly to employ manpower from other states, blamed Mr. Mehta.

By evening the plant management has assured the agitated workers to discuss the matter on Monday in the presence of top management officials.

Meanwhile efforts to contact the plant GM could not be succeed as he was away from plant. The plant Production Manager was also not reachable despite repeated attempts. No other senior official was available in plant.
