Shimla: The Himachal cabinet stamped its approval on a proposal by the transport ministry to hike bus fares by as much as 25 percent in one go following the hike in petrol and diesel announced by the central government recently.
Chief secretary Ravi Dhingra said that the bus fare hike would help to offset HRTC losses by as much as Rs 54 crores annually. The hike would come into force from the date of notification, he said after the cabinet that met at Dharamshala approved it
He said that current HRTC liabilities were at Rs 139 crores. The government has directed HRTC to improve efficiency and exercise economy in all the units.
