Shimla: Plummeting temperatures intensified the cold wave conditions across the hill state as the capital Shimla recorded its lowest sub-zero temperature of the season. The meteorological office recorded a minus 2.2 degree Celsius temperature, last night.
The heavy fog conditions that prevailed in the evening caused poor visibility for motor vehicle traffic and is being considered a possible cause for a bus accident in which 32 people were injured near Dhalli.
The lowest temperature in the state at – 24 degree Celsius was recorded at Patseio in Lahaul-Spiti district. Temperatures recorded in other places were: Keylong – 15.9 degree Celsius; Dhundi (Kullu) -15 degree Celsius, Bhang (Manali) -7 degree Celsius and Kalpa (Kinnaur) – 11.2 degree Celsius.
Over the last 24 hours barring Manali, there was no report of any rain or snow from anywhere in the state.
After facing wet conditions for the past two days, the sky was clear over Shimla town for much of the day but towards the evening clouds emerged dipping temperatures.
Many Shimlaites awoke to no water supplies as the sub-zero temperatures had frozen the supply lines.
For the next 24 hours, the met office has forecast clear skies.
