Non-bailable Warrants Against Himachal’s Top Cop BS Thind

Shimla: Top cop BS Thind is in trouble again as non-bailable warrants were issued by a court in Punjab on Monday, Yahoo news citing IANS reported.

The warrant was issued by the Rajpura court in a case related to cheating a US based woman of six acres of prime land in Kharar town of Punjab using forged documents, the report stated.

Even though Thind is facing serious charges of fraud and was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation last year over shady land deals and allegedly defrauding several banks by securing loans worth several lakhs on presenting forged documents, he continues to hold the responsible position of Additional Director General of Police in Himachal.

The police officer who was aspiring to become the Director General of Police in Himachal had to be suspended by the state government after last year he was arrested by the CBI and had to cool his heels in prison for several days.

However, the suspension of Thind, who is considered close to chief minister Virbhadra Singh was revoked six months later.

In the midst of the election campaign here, Satpal Jain, the BJP incharge for Himachal had raised the issue of Thind and accused chief minister of shielding corruption in the state. He had demanded to know what compulsions had forced Virbhadra Singh to overlook the charges being faced by Thind and have his suspension revoked.

On the other hand chief minister Virbhadra Singh has been defending the governments action on the ground that this matter of Thind pertained to another state and in Himachal there were nothing against him.

Thind has been saying that he was a victim of professional rivalry and the land matters over which he was charged were of civil nature and there was nothing criminal about it.

With the court having issued non-bailable warrants the controversy is bound to flare up again and is soon expected to find its way into the political arena as the state is in a crucial phase of elections for the general state assembly.

  1. “On the other hand chief minister Virbhadra Singh has been defending the governments action on the ground that this matter of Thind pertained to another state and in Himachal there were nothing against him.”

This means that the present government will keep giving the shelter the criminals of other states irrespective of the seriousness of the matter.

This remind me of the statement from Nehru on the issue of protecting the corrupt, when he had defended the then corrupt Punjab CM Pratap Singh Kairon. The same attitude continues even today in Congress irrespective of the corruption charges against a particular UPA/congress leader.

“Thind has been saying that he was a victim of professional rivalry and the land matters over which he was charged were of civil nature and there was nothing criminal about it.”

Professional rivalry by/from whom??? He was framed and arrested by the CBI and jailed for his illegal deals which were investigated by a CONgress govt in center/ punjab. It appears difficult to digest these statements from a responsible CM of the our state.

From this whole episode, it appears that CM he hellbent on protecting Mr Thind for whatever known/unknown reasons.
