Prof. DeSouza is the New Director of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study

Professor Peter Ronald de Souza, 51, is appointed as the new Director of the prestigious Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. His career history unwrap a long list according to which he was Visiting Senior Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies Delhi, before the new appointment. Recently, he has completed a study for the World Bank on ‘Dalits, Discrimination and the Struggle for Equal Citizenship'(EOM).

He was Co-director of the Lokniti programme and was currently coordinating the State of Democracy in South Asia (SDSA) project. He was a professor of Political Science at Goa University for sixteen years and was head of the department from 1996 to 2002. He was a member of the International Political Science Association’s Research Committees on Political Philosophy and Political Sociology. He has been a Visiting professor and scholar to many foreign Universities.

He is a member of the Editorial Committee for Indian Council for Social Science Research Survey on trends in Political Science and on the of Indian Journal of Social Science Review. Prof. deSouza was part of the team that did a review of Social Science Research Capacity in South Asia for the Social Science Research Council, New York.

Moreover, he has presented over 82 papers at National and International Seminars and conferences. He has authored many books and research articles.
