NAHAN: Over two hundred BJP workers and farmers of Sirmour district today took out a protest march in Paonta town in protest against the ‘derogatory’ remarks made by union Minister Shankar Singh Bhagela and Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh against the farmers community of the country and burnt effigies of both leaders.
Protesters led by Mr Sukh Ram Chaudhari, BJP MLA from Paonta Doon and State President of BJP Kissan Morcha shouted slogans against Bhagela, Deshmukh and Union government and demanded that both leaders should be dismissed from their positions and Union government should tender apology for these comments against farmers community of the country. Protesters in front of the SDM’s office burnt the effigies of Bhagela and Deshmukh.
Addressing media persons on this occasion Mr Sukh Ram Chaudhri alleged that UPA government was anti farmer and pro capitalists and multi nationals. He said that it was most unfortunate that in Maharashtra where farmers committing suicides as they were buried under heavy debts they were also victim of government apathy. He alleged that Union government or Maharashtra government inspite of doing some thing to save farmers from the clutches of ‘killer debts’ these Congress leaders were making a number of derogatory remarks against them and even calling them ‘Sharabi – Kababi’.
