Heavy silt in the rivers has effected power generation as many plants shut down operations. Incharge of the 1500 MW Natpha Jhakri plant. RK Bansal over phone informed that there had been a 144 million unit loss of generation because of the plant having remained shut for four continuous days. He said if the weather conditions stabilized the plant would come into generation in two days as the silt level was coming down. Sudden withdrawal of so much power has put the northern grid under stress affecting supply to Punjab, Haryana, UP and Delhi.
