Agitation against opening of a liquor vend on the main road near Rukhri village of Satiwala Panchyat suddenly got a new turn today when hundreds of Women from around six villages turned up on the Paonta – Chandigarh National highway and sat on Dharna on the main road.
Agitators shouted slogans against the opening of liquor vend and blocked traffic for over two and half hours. Thousands of passengers today had tough time as in the unbearable heat hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on the both sides of road. Agitators were demanding immediate closing of liquor vend.
Police and administrative officers rushed to the spot and persuaded agitators to lift Dharna. The blocked could be lifted only after 12.30 with an assurance to the villagers from the administration that liquor vend would be removed from the present position.
In the mean while Nahan police has registered a case against the agitators on the charge of blocking of National highway.
