‘Mentally unstable’ Uttar Pradesh cop wants to leave hospital

Lucknow : A senior Uttar Pradesh police officer who termed the Mayawati government “most corrupt” and was subsequently put under psychiatric treatment, wants to be discharged from the hospital, a health official said Monday.

IPS officer D.D. Misra was put under psychiatric treatment at the Chattrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University here.

Misra has been visibly incoherent since Saturay last, when he blasted the state government. He was shifted to the hospital.

He has been diagnosed with “bipolar effective disorder” by the medcal university psychiatry department head P.K.Dalal under whose treatment he was admitted at the university trauma centre here.

While the private ward in which Misra is admitted has been kept out of bounds for all other than his own family members, Misra was stated to have on Monday expressed his desire to go home.

“Mr. Misra was quite inclined to go back home, but his family members as well as the team of psychiatrists attending on him do not find it advisable to discharge him so soon,” hospital medical superintendent S.N.Sankhwar told IANS here.

According to him, “the patient is progressing well, but would have to remain under observation for the next few days at least, while he would have to undergo long-term treatment.”

He admitted that visitors were not allowed to call on Misra. “His mind requires rest, so only his family members are allowed to be with him.”
