US infringing individual human rights: Yechury

New Delhi, July 2 (IANS) As reports suggested the Indian Embassy in Washington was one of the 38 diplomatic missions which American intelligence agencies were spying on, CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury said the US was infringing individual human rights.

“Whether snooping or no snooping, the issue is how can any other country interfere in the affairs of individual of a different country violating laws of that country. These are things which simply should not be allowed,” Yechury told reporters.

“It has been habit of US, in the name of global security and fight against terror… what they are doing is infringing upon individual human rights,” said the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader.

A report published in The Guardian quoted US National Security Agency documents leaked by the whistleblower Edward Snowden revealing that the agencies were using a wide range of spying methods including bugging of 38 embassies, including India’s.
