Kathmandu, June 19 (IANS) The third edition of the Nepal-Africa Film Festival opened with the screening of “Earth Anthem”, a short film written, produced and directed by Indian poet-diplomat Abhay K.
The screening of the 2.5-minute-long film was held Wednesday at the Russian Cultural Centre in the Nepal capital. It was attended by celebrities of the Nepalese film industry.
The “Earth Anthem”, originally a poem written by Abhay K. in 2009, has been set to music by Sapan Ghimire, a composer from Darjeeling. It has been sung by Shreya Sotang of Nepal.
The ‘anthem’, sung in eight languages – Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Hindi, Nepali, Russian and Spanish – celebrates the diversity of the planet.
Nepali actor Rajesh Hamal along with key persons of the Nepalese film industry were present at the inauguration ceremony of the fest along with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Nepal, Sergey V. Velichkin, and Honorary Consul of South Africa, Pradeep Kumar Shrestha.
The screening of the “Earth Anthem” was followed by the screening of “The White Masai”, a film about a Swiss woman who falls in love with a Masai while holidaying in Kenya, and her life thereafter.
The festival will end Thursday, and a total of 14 films will be screened during the event. Some of the titles include “Yesterday’s Slave”, “Hotel Rwanda”, “Danish Fly”, “Windows of Hope” and “Kenya Rwanda”.
