Kolkata, May 25 (IANS) The Congress in West Bengal Saturday attacked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on implementation of the rural jobs programme, saying the state has turned out a poor performer in the 100 days work scheme despite tall claims of the Trinamool Congress government.
“The state government kept on claiming that it is number one in crating jobs in 100 days work programme. It is absolutely wrong,” state Congress chief Pradip Bhattacharya said here.
Bhattacharya said according to a latest data published by the union government, West Bengal could generate only 24.44 days of employment under NREGS (National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme), while Mizoram created 87 days of employment under the 100-day work programme in the financial year 2012-13.
“The chief minister often throws challenge to others. Today I challenge her. Your rank in crating jobs under NREGS is 23rd… you are not at the number 1 position. It is Mizoram which stood first in this regard,” the Congress leader said.
“So, why are you lying to the people of Bengal?” he asked.
