Rajma-chawal for Sreesanth in police custody

New Delhi, May 17 (IANS) Rajasthan Royals player S. Sreesanth was the only who went without dinner even as his two team mates along with the 11 bookies arrested for allegedly spot fixing IPL matches had a hearty meal Thursday night in police custody. But the fast bowler had rajma-chawal as brunch, police sources said Friday.

Sources told IANS that when Sreesanth was arrested from Trident Nariman Point Hotel in Mumbai late Wednesday, he was with a woman. Police refused to give more details about her. They also ruled out her involvement in spot fixing.

Sreesanth and his two Rajasthan Royals team mates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan alongwith 11 bookies were arrested Wednesday night from different locations for spot fixing Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. They were remanded to five days’ police custody and are lodged in the Special Cell office of Delhi Police at Lodhi Colony here.

While all the three players were lodged together in one cell, the rest were warded in another cell. They were given mattresses to sleep on.

“Sreesanth refused dinner last night. We asked him this morning. When he said yes, we gave him the choice of rajma-chawal. He said ok. This was his first meal. He had it around 11 a.m.,” a source told IANS. It was not known what the others ate.

After his meal, Sreesanth was also questioned by Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar.

Police sources said all the three cricketers have confessed to their crime. But their families and lawyers have denied the allegations.
