Yangon, May 6 (IANS) Former Manchester United players will play a friendly match against a Myanmar team in a charity event at Thuwunna stadium in Yangon next month.
The charity event, which is hosted by Ayeyarwady Foundation, CEA Myanmar and Park Royal hotel, is slated for June 9 at Thuwunna stadium here, said the Myanmar Times News, reports Xinhua.
The former Manchester United players are Denis Irwin, Andy Cole, Clayton Blackmore and Lee Sharpe.
The Myanmar team will include Myanmar internationals and foreign players from the Myanmar National League (MNL).
The donations received from the match will go to monastic education, local hospitals and HIV rehabilitation efforts.
“Hopefully we can raise a lot of money for the charities and everyone is going to come out and support all of the events and we are going to have a great time,” the report quoted former Manchester player Clayton Blackmore as saying.
Blackmore appeared in 251 matches for the club and won 39 caps for Welsh.
Blackmore and Denis Irwin visited Thuwunna Stadium, April 26, to inspect the grounds, which they found to be up to international standards.
Irwin, a former fullback, spent 12 successful seasons at Old Trafford.
