Brazil fans have right to boo: Scolari

Rio de Janeiro, April 26 (IANS) Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has said he understands the reaction of fans who booed his team in the final minutes of Wednesday’s 2-2 friendly draw with Chile.

The result at Belo Horizonte’s Mineirao Stadium left Scolari with just one win, a loss and three draws from his first five matches since taking over from sacked predecessor Mano Menezes last November, reports Xinhua.

“We didn’t play well. If we had played better, maybe the fans would have reacted differently,” Scolari said Thursday.

“We didn’t have many chances to score and we let them play their own game. I can’t criticise the fans. When we play well they will react differently.”

Brazil has not beaten a former World Cup-winning opponent since November 2009, when they defeated England 1-0 in Doha.

When asked if his position would be under threat should the team not progress beyond the Confederations Cup group stage, Scolari lost his patience.

“I’m not going to answer that. You are joking,” he said, before leaving the press conference.

Brazil will prepare for the tournament with friendlies against England at Rio’s revamped Maracana Stadium June 2 and then France at Porto Alegre’s Arena Gremio a week later.
