New Delhi, April 25 (IANS) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Thursday sought a report from Haryana after more than 100 Dalits were forced to leave a village in Kaithal district by upper caste people.
Ten Dalits and seven policemen were injured in an attack by upper caste people April 13 in the Pabnama village of Kaithal district following the marriage of a Dalit boy with a girl belonging to affluent Rod community.
“Over 100 people fled a village in Kaithal after they were chased away by high caste people. We have issued a notice to the district magistrate and superintendent of police, Kaithal, Haryana calling for reports within four weeks,” said an official of the NHRC.
Reportedly, the boy and the girl were in a relationship for the past two years and had tied the knot April 10.
