Sack law minister for ‘vetting’ coal scam report: BJP

Kolkata, April 16 (IANS) Demanding the sacking of union Law Minister Ashwani Kumar for “vetting” the CBI report on coal blocks allocations before it was submitted to the Supreme Court, the BJP Tuesday accused the UPA government of “misusing” the agency.

“As law minister, his (Kumar’s) job is make laws and not to break them. By doing what he has done, the minister has lowered the honour of the post,” BJP national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said here.

Reacting to a report in a national daily that claimed that Ashwani Kumar “vetted” the coal blocks allocations probe status report before it was submitted to the Supreme Court, Hussain said the law minister must immediately resign.

“We will not sit quiet. We will raise the issue in parliament,” said Hussain.

The BJP leader also accused the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre of misusing and abusing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

“Three parties are giving outside support to the UPA; the Samajwadi Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the CBI,” Hussain said.

He added that the premier investigation agency was being misused by the government to suit its own interests.
