New Delhi, April 13 (IANS) After losing their game against Sunrisers Hyderabad Friday – their fourth consecutive loss in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Daredevils’ Shahbaz Nadeem said they have not done enough with the bat.
“We need to fight back. We have not been doing enough with the bat. In today’s (Friday) match we scored 114. If we would have made around 135-140, it would have been a good score and we could have had the match in our hands,” Shahbaz said Friday after their loss to Sunrisers.
“We have a good side but unfortunately could not score. The return of Virender Sehwag means a lot for us. He is the star batsman of the team. You never know when he’ll explode, so he is always an asset.”
The left-arm spinner said that of the four matches played so far this season, three went right down to the wire and the Daredevils lost it right at the end.
“Three of the four games we have played were very close matches which we lost right at the end. We were fighting till the end but lost the games. This happens in T20. We will have to win if we have to qualify for the semi-finals.
“We never thought we were going to lose the match. I think in the middle overs if we could have bowled 1-2 more tight overs, it would have done the trick for us,” the 23-year-old added.
“The wicket was slow and helped the bowlers, hence the low overall scores. The Sunrisers also struggled, only managing to score towards the end of the game.”
When asked how will they pick themselves up for the upcoming matches against strong teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings, Shahbaz said: “Losing all four matches is a concern but we will try our best. One must not forget that it was this team only which went a long way last year.”
