New Delhi, April 11 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday accused the Congress party for using “every trick to cover up complicity of its leaders” in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said here that witnesses were threatened and victims were stopped from filing cases in police stations and there was “misuse of CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation)”.
“The Congress party has consistently used every trick to cover up the active complicity of its leaders and workers in perpetrating this massacre. Witnesses were threatened and victims were stopped from filing cases in police stations,” she said.
“Colluding with some unscrupulous elements in the police, Congress men indulged in large-scale effacing of evidences,” Sitharaman said.
She said more than 2,700 Sikh women, children and men were killed in the riots.
The BJP spokesperson alleged that the CBI was misused to file “a misleading report to the court” which allegedly led to the earlier dismissal of the case against Jagdish Tytler.
She said some other Congress leaders have faced allegations about complicity in the 1984 riots.
