Kolkata, April 8 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Monday said that the state’s development was being hampered as many government employees affiliated to the Left Front did not know how to work.
Blaming the erstwhile Left Front regime for the poor finances of West Bengal, she said: “Important files are missing and there are many employees, patronised by the Left, who don’t know how to work. Despite all the problems, Bengal has been the number one performing state in the country.”
Accusing the central government of allowing the previous regime to “borrow unscrupulously”, Banerjee said her government was forced to bear the “legacy of the Left Front”, which had left the state with “no revenue” as everything now goes towards repaying debts.
She also claimed there were many contractors who intentionally delayed projects or indulged in malpractices.
