Ranchi, April 4 (IANS) Five policemen were killed Thursday in a gun battle with Maoist guerrillas in Jharkhand, police said.
The incident took place at Chainpur town of Gumla district, some 170 km from here, when Maoists attacked a police party while it was patrolling a weekly market. They also looted three rifles of the policemen.
Four police personnel were killed on the spot, while one died in hospital, an official said.
Maoist guerrillas are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state.
