Interim bail extended till 24th March
Shimla: In hot soup over charges of forgery, the district courts today extended the interim bail granted to former minister Singhi Ram till March 24th in a case related to securing admission in a leading college of Delhi by producing a fake certificate.
The police has slapped cases under section 420, 468, 471 and 120 that could attract imprisonment ranging from 4 to 6 years if the charges are proved in court.
The issue relates to Upma Kashyap, daughter of Singhi Ram who is allegedly said to have secured admission into Lady Shir Ram College in Delhi by allegedly using a forged certificate of HP School Education Board in 2005.
Upma, who was a student of Lawrence School Sanawar, had failed her CBSE examination in that year but had managed to get admission in the reputed college by producing a certificate from the state education board that had very high grades, the police say.
However, her candidature from the college is said to have been withdrawn later and Upma took admission in Convent of Jesus & Mary College in Delhi by producing a certificate from another board. The police claim to have in possession a copy of the forged certificate.
Anand Pratap Singh, SP Vigilance told My Himachal News that the investigation in the case is almost complete and we will put the challan in court within a fortnight.
