Dehradun : Chief minister B C Khanduri today submitted his resignation to Uttarakhand governor Margaret Alva this afternoon.
It may be recalled that the ruling BJP has emerged as the second largest party in the state after the recent vidhan sabha elections with 31 seats in a House of 70. Khanduri himself, however, lost to S S Negi of the Congress from the Kotdwara assembly segment.
The governor expressed her sorrow on Mr Khanduri losing from Kotdwara and praised his performance during the short tenure he was at the helm of affairs in the state.
Khanduri achieved a lot during the short term that he had after he was re-appointed the chief minister, she added.
Khanduri also had a word of praise for the governor claiming that Margaret Alva had always stood by the government as and when required, which helped in the smooth functioning of the government.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader, Rajnath Singh today reached here from Delhi to take stock of the situation, following the hung mandate given by the masses.
A meeting of the newly-elected BJP legislators has been summoned, where Rajnath Singh will disclose the next course of action to be taken by the party.
In the meantime, independent MLA Mantri Prasad, a Congress rebel, who was declared elected from the Devprayag assembly segment said that he had so far not taken any decision regarding the party he would support in forming the government in the state.
“I will talk to the people who have voted me to the assembly and any decision I will take will only be after consultation with them regarding which party they want me to support”, he added.
