Road shows by Congress and BJP in the district
With just twenty-four hours are left for the polling, the electioneering for all the five assembly seats from Hamirpur district ended here today with leaders of Congress and BJP taking part in road shows in various parts of the district.
While Chief Minister, Vir Bhadra Singh took part in a road show from Sandhol in Mandi to Sujanpur Tira in Hamirpur and launched a scathing attack on the BJP for indulging in corrupt measures during its last regime, the chief ministerial candidate of the BJP for Himachal, Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal organized about two dozen corner meetings in the Nadaunta and Bamsan assembly segments of the district.
During his last attempt to woe the electorate of Bamsan and Hamirpur, the chief minister and senior Congress leader, Vir Bhadra Singh made corruption a major weapon in his hands to attack the BJP. He told the people about the contents of Hard disk in which many recommendations were made by Prof. Dhumal for the jobs to his near and dear ones’.
While appealing the people to vote for Congress, he said that Congress and Development were complimentary to each other and each vote for the Congress would be a vote for the development and to maintain peace and harmony in the state.
On other hand, Dhumal lambasted the chief minister for indulging in the corrupt measures along with his MP wife. He quoted the contents of a CD that was released during the last bye election to Hamirpur Lok sabha seat.
The BJP chief ministerial candidate also blasted the Congress on the price rise and shortages of various essential commodities. By giving so called cheap ration to the people at the fag end of their rule, the people would not be lured, he told the gatherings at all places.
He sought peoples’ cooperation for the BJP for their own benefits and overall development. He claimed that there was balanced and equal development during the BJP regime and he was promising once again that the old tempo would be maintained from the day one, when the BJP takes over reigns in the state.
Meanwhile, the district administration is all set for the fair and peaceful elections for the entire five assembly segment of the district. They are Nadaun, Hamirpur, Bamsan, Mewa (reserve) and Nadaunta. A record number of 3,54,233 voters, including ,80,026 female and 1,74,197 male voters will exercise their right of franchise on 414 polling stations spread over five assembly segments of the district. These include 49 hyper sensitive, eighty-nine sensitive, 247 ordinary and twenty-nine critical polling stations.
The administration is all set for free and fair elections and necessary steps had been taken, says Deputy Commissioner, Nandini Gupta. She said that the jawans of central police forces had also arrived in the district to take charge of the polling stations so that the law and order situation was kept fully under control. They would be assisted by the jawans of local police and Home guards.
Ms. Gupta said that the polling parties would be dispatched to their respective polling stations after distribution of election material to them on December 17 th. These parties would set up their booths on December 18th so that polling was started in time on December 19th. Polling would start at 8.00 A.M and end at 5.00 P.M, the Deputy Commissioner added.
