Chandigarh: Bracing up to contest the upcoming assembly elections as third alternative, the year old Manpreet Badal’s outfit Peoples Party of Punjab (PPP) forged an alliance with the left parties consisting of Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India Marxists (CPIM) and Akali Dal (Longowal).
Announcing to fight the elections jointly under Sanjha Morcha, the alliance declared plans of launching an ‘Ijjat Sambhal Yatra’ (Save your honour) before the announcement of the polls from Dhudike from 6th November.
At a meeting held here, Sanjha Morcha also announced Manpreet Badal as their chief ministerial candidate for forthcoming elections.
Before cementing ties with other parties Manpreet on Saturday had announced, “PPP and its allies would contest all 117 seats in Punjab.†A common minimum program agreeable to all was to be basis of the alliance.
The rebel Badal had also announced his candidature from Gidderbaha and that of his father Gurdas Badal’s from Lambi. Chief minister of Punjab, Prakash Singh Badal represent Lambi constituency in the current assembly.
PPP would make it election manifesto public on 15th November, Manpreet had declared.
Making known the new party’s orgnanisational structure, Manpreet who is also the PPP president had said that a 250 member general council was made up of 14 committees.
A three tier hierarchy, starting from constituency to district level committee culminating in the general council has been adopted by the party, he had said.
