Industrialist in assault case arrested, bailed

Shimla: Industrialist DC Anand, chairman of the Anand Group of industries was arrested in a assault case and later released on bail.

“Anand was arrested at Parwanoo, late last night,” police from the Dhalli police station said. His statement was recorded and after furnishing a bond of Rs 5,000, was released said the station master. Sources revealed that Anand denied before the investigating officer of his involvement in the assault case.

Anand was on the run after his 70 year old younger sister Urmila Sawhney had lodged a complaint about him having assaulted her last week. The police had got a medical examination of Urmila conducted and an FIR attracting 341, 323, 506, 34 sections of IPC was registered.

Property dispute among DC Anand and his youngest brother Satish Anand is said to be the cause for the assault. Urmila, who claimed to have no stakes in the Anand group, stand in the ongoing dispute does not favour the elder brother.

Fearing her elder brother after the assault, Urmila has decided to move the National Women’s Cell and Senior Citizens Forum for protection, she in a press release stated here.
