Himachal wants five national highways

Shimla : The Himachal Pradesh government Tuesday requested the Central government to declare five roads as national highways to strengthen the road network in the hill state.

This request was made by the state public works minister Gulab Singh when he met the union surface transport minister C.P.Joshi in New Delhi.

The PWD minister requested to declare Hamirpur-Palampur-Sukjanpur. Brahmpukhar-Bilaspur-Ghumarwin-Sarkaghat-Ladbharol-Baijnath.Pathankot-Dalhousie-Chamba-Bharmaur.Taradevi-Jubarhatti-Kunihar-Ramshahar-Nalagarh-Ghamouli.Chandigarh-Pokhar-Ramshahar-Arki-Shalaghat roads as national highways.

Singh said the state government also needed funds to build by-passes at Jogindernagar,Sundernagar and Theog to decongest these towns.
