Rangila Ram Rao, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister stressed upon launching a campaign to eradicate social evils like untouchability from the society and urged the judiciary to dispose of cases related to atrocities on SC/STs on prority . He was addressing a Seminar on Protection of Civil Rights Act,1955 and SC/STs Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989 organised by Social Justice and Empowerment Department here today.
He said that action should be initiated against those officers who delay disposal of such cases and stressed upon publicizing the provisions of the Act besides the Rights of SC/STs by regularly holding Seminars across the State especially in remote areas so that awareness could be generated in this regard.
Rs. 197.38 crores were being spent during current financial year towards welfare of the weaker sections.
He said that Mother Teresa Matri Sambal Yojna was being implemented in the State for helpless women and children under which 6818 children were being provided assistance and added that Rs. 157 lacs would be spent under this scheme during current financial year.
