Shimla: Congress has decided to ask the union government to step in for initiating appropriate action over alleged intercepting phones of its leaders and decided to observe February 1 as anti-corruption day against the state government.
Kaul Singh Takur, state congress president told reporters on Sunday, “we would write to union home ministry seeking action against the Dhumal government after contents of audio CDs came to light where he can be heard instructing a police official to purportedly tap the telephone of union minister Virbhadra Singh and his wife Pratibha Singh.
We are also considering legal options on this serious issue,†he said. “The party would observe February 1 as anti-corruption day in all 68 assembly segments by resorting to sit in Dharna’s, he added.
Rubbishing the CID probe ordered by the chief minister into the genesis of the CDs, the congress leader demanded that the investigation be carried out by CBI.
In response to Satyapal Jain, BJP incharge for Himachal, statement on Saturday that a FIR could not be registered when there was no complainant, Kaul Singh said, “there could not be two set of laws after an FIR was registered against Virbhadra when a contentious CD surfaced in 2007.â€
He said that the state party would also submit a memo to Lok Sabha speaker against Virender Kashyap, BJP parliamentarian, over him allegedly taking illegal money, as seen in the video CD, in exchange for facilitating setting up of an educational institution in Solan district.
“The video involving the MP has put a question mark over mushrooming of private universities in the state and the government is still in the process of clearing many of them,†said the congress president.
Taking exception to Vijay Goel, BJP national secretary and Jain according a clean chit to the Dhumal government, Kaul Singh said, BJP leaders are doing so even before the matter has been investigated.
