Dharamsala: Kangra district magistrate Dr. Nipun Jindal in a public communique has stated that the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) is to release excess water from Pong reservoir on Sunday (16th July, 2023) at 4 pm.
The Magistrate has appealed to the residents living downstream of the Pong Dam area not to go near the river course.
Jindal stated that 22300 cusecs water will be released from Pong Dam w.e.f. Dated:- 16/07/2023. The release may be increased up to 32000 cusecs by 17th July morning.
The District Collector said that heavy rains are continuing in many the districts of state. Recently, due to the release of water from Pandoh Dam, constructed upstream on the Beas river, the water level at the Pong Dam reservoir, just upstream of Talwara on river Beas, has increased substantially. As a result, the BBMB administration at 4 pm today will start releasing excess water from the dam reservoir.

The magistrate has appealed not to go or take livestock are near the river.
In case of any emergency, the public has been asked to immediately contact the local Panchayat Pradhan/Secretary/Patwari or inform on the number 1077 or mobile number 7650991077 of District Disaster Management Deputy Commissioner, Kangra.
