Nauni (Solan): Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, has reportedly been defrauded of a staggering Rs 70 lakh by a private firm, M/s Rainbow Enterprises, a Shimla based company. The entity was entrusted with managing the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) for the university’s outsourced workers and has failed to deposit the funds with the Employee Provident Fund Office (EPFO).
The matter came to light when workers raised concerns that their EPF contributions were not being credited, and duplicate Universal Account Numbers (UANs) had been issued. Following these complaints, Sanjeev Chauhan, Director of Research at the university, lodged a formal complaint with the Solan police, triggering an investigation into the financial irregularities.
According to the agreement between the university and Rainbow Enterprises, the firm was responsible for submitting verified EPF challans. However, despite periodic payments from the university, the firm did not deposit the funds, leading to a liability of approximately Rs 70 lakh. This breach of trust has sparked concerns about the firm’s financial practices and its management of workers’ entitlements.
An FIR has been filed against M/s Rainbow Enterprises under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Solan Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Singh confirmed that investigations are underway.
