Baddi: Intervention of the district administration for the time being helped to resolve a simmering dispute on Friday over levying of freight charges between truckers and an industrial unit in Baddi.
After holding a meeting with Nalagarh Truck Operators Union and the management of Sagar Ispat industrial unit involved in the dispute, area magistrate Vivek Mahajan said, “both the industry and the truckers have shown their resolve to settle the dispute following which an amicable solution has been worked out.”
The dispute over freight charges turned violent on Wednesday resulting in two persons getting injured and several vehicles being damaged.
“Sagar Ispat was facing problems in securing trucks for ferrying industrial goods,” said Mahajan. “The problem has been amicably resolved,” he added.
Rajiv Aggarwal, president of the Baddi, Barotiwala, Nalagarh Industrial Association asked the truck operators to compare the freight charges being levied by the union vis-à-vis other states.
If the rates are reasonable, industry would meet its transport needs from the local truck operators and there would be no need to secure lorries from other states. It would be of advantage to all stakeholders and increase the states industrial output by attaining a competitive advantage in the region, said Aggarwal.
The Nalagarh Truck Operators Union denied having any hand in the violent incident.
