Shimla: Having secured an approval for the investment proposal of Rs 2614 crore for construction of the 382 MW Sunni Dam project from the union cabinet earlier in the month, central public undertaking SJVN has initiated construction works on several infrastructure projects for early completion of the hydropower plant
On Saturday (21.1..2023) Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN Sh. Nand Lal Sharma inaugurated commencement of construction works for 113 metre Double Lane Steel Truss Bridge. The bridge is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 14 crores across river Satluj, downstream of project site at Village Khera, district Shimla.
Thereafter, Sh. Sharma inaugurated commencement of widening works for Left Bank Approach road and construction works of Right Bank Approach road. The work for both approach roads is scheduled to be completed by 31.03.2023 and will not only enable the acceleration of project construction activities at various components, but also facilitate the local populace residing on both the river banks in day to day activities.
During his visit, Sh. Sharma also inaugurated the commencement of construction works for Project Office Building and Bachelor accommodation. On completion, these will enable acceleration of project execution by facilitating 24×7 availability of the employees at project sites.
Addressing the project officials, Sh. Sharma asked the employees to make collaborated efforts to complete the project within scheduled timeline to avoid any kind of time and cost overruns.
EPC Contract Package including Design and Engineering Services, Civil and Hydro Mechanical works amounting to Rs. 1098 Crores have been awarded to M/s Rithwik Projects Pvt. Ltd. on 14.01.2023.
“With the award of major works of Sunni Dam Project, the cumulative project awarded in current fiscal year is highest ever in the history of SJVN. Four solar and one hydro project of 1697 MW capacity has been awarded in FY 2022-23.”
382 MW Sunni Dam Project is a run-of-the-river project situated in District Shimla and Mandi of Himachal Pradesh on river Satluj. On Commissioning, project shall generate 1382 Million Units annually and the levelized tariff is Rs. 3.90 per unit.
The Project is scheduled to be commissioned within 63 months of the commencement of construction works. Project construction activities will result in direct and indirect employment to around 4000 persons.
On commissioning, 13% of the electricity generated will be provided free of cost to Government of Himachal Pradesh including 1% for Local Area development fund. Execution of the project will lead to community assets creation, infrastructure development thus benefitting the region and contributing to the overall socio-economic development of Himachal Pradesh.
