Shimla: The Himachal government and National Hydroelectric Power Corp (NHPC) have singed an implementation agreement for construction of the 500 MW generation capacity Dugar hydropower project on Chenab river basis.
Director Energy Harikesh Meena in the presence of Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur signed the agreement on behalf of the state government and NHPC General Manager (Power) Suresh Kumar signed on behalf of the public sector power generation company.

Cost of construction of the 500 MW project is estimated at Rs 3987.34 crores and the construction period is projected at 71 months from commencement of execution work.
The project site has been leased out to NHPC for period of 70 years and on commissioning of the project, the state would get 4% free electricity, which would subsequently rise to 25% free electricity as the lease duration increases.
The Sugar project was allotted to NHPC on 7th August, 2018, MoU was signed on 26th September, 2019 and the Federal Government gave technical approval on 26th April, 2022.
