Shimla: Budding artists Arpita Thakur and Arushi Attri were declared group winners in a state-level school painting competition on energy conservation.
The winners were awarded Rs 50,000 prize money. Rudransh Jindal and Ayush Kumar won the second prize of Rs 30,000. While third prizes of Rs 20,000 each were bagged by Aakriti Shandil and Kapil. Ten Consolation prizes of Rs. 7,500 each for both Groups were also awarded.
The competition organised by public sector power company SJVN had its theme “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav” with a focus on ‘Energy Efficient India” and ‘Cleaner Planet’. Students of class V to VII participated in the Group ‘A’ category and those in class VIII to X were part of the Group ‘B’ category.
Presiding over the prize distribution ceremony SJVN chairman-cum-managing director Mr Nand Lal Sharma said “It is encouraging to see young artists express themselves freely and create works that make us admire as well as think about energy and environmental protection.”
“Art plays a pivotal role in our lives and is connected to every aspect of humanity. My heartiest congratulations to the winners as well as all participants for their talent and creative spirit,” said Sharma.
Top three paintings from each group will compete for the National Level Prizes and winners will be selected out of the paintings drawn by students in the State Level Competitions. The First Prize in the National Level Painting Competition is Rs 1,00,000 for each group, while the Second and Third prizes is Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000. In addition, there are 10 Consolation prizes of Rs 15,000 each for both Groups.
To celebrate Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, a video clip competition to showcase post-Independence progress in the hydropower sector was organized for the employees of SJVN. Mr Sharma was awarded the winners of this competition. Mr Pranay Sagar bagged the first prize while second and third prizes went to Ms Dev Kanya Thakur and Mr Harsh Bhaskar Mehta.
In her welcome address Smt. Geeta Kapur, Director (Personnel) disclosed that the competition was organized at three locations i.e. Shimla, Jhakri and Hamirpur. Mr SP Bansal, Director (Civil) along with other senior officers of SJVN, students and parents of participating students were also present for the event.
SJVN is the nodal agency for organizing the painting competition at the State level in Himachal Pradesh since 2004.
