Dharamshala: Member of the Canadian parliament and Conservative leadership candidate, Erin O’Toole pledged support for a dialogue between the representatives of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Chinese government in a 50-page policy platform released Wednesday.
A Central Tibetan Administration official said here on Thursday that Tooles campaign manifesto cites that if his government gets elected, it would place caveats on the One China policy based on how the Chinese government responds with regard to “respect and reconciliation with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people, and treatment of persecuted religious communities of Uighurs”.
The Tibetan official also mentioned that the manifesto commits to “champion the cause of oppressed peoples including Tibetans, Uighurs and Kurds.”
In terms of foreign policy, the platform advocates a tougher stance toward China and elevating Canada’s relationship with India, including a renewed effort for a free trade deal.
