Himachal Hikes Liquor Prices As Jairam Gov. Imposes ‘Covid Cess’

Shimla: A shortfall in taxes due to the unprecedented shutting down of businesses, the state cabinet chaired by chief minister Jai Ram Thakur on Friday decided to levy additional license fee on sale of liquor.

The price of Country liquor, Can on Beer/RTD Indian Made has been increased by Rs 5 per bottle, IMFL (Indian made foreign liquor), Can on Beer/ RTD (BIO), Indian wine/Cider by Rs 10 per bottle and Foreign imported liquor, Wine/Cider(BIO) by Rs 25 per bottle.

Import fees were increased from Rs 10.50 per bulk litres to Rs 15 for spirits used in sanitation products.

The cabinet also decided to relax curfew timings and increased relaxations from five to seven hours.

The cabinet approved of Rs 25.20 cr to be spent under Mukhya Mantri Shahri Ajeevika Guarantee Yojana to provide 120 days assured unskilled employment guarantee to every household in Urban Local Bodies. This would also help in strengthening infrastructure and providing quality civic amenities.

To address the skill development and employment generation in the state the cabinet also approved to set up Centre of Excellence at Wakhnaghat in Solan district under ADB funded programme.

Cabinet sub-committee constituted for post COVID-19 economic revival recommended to plug revenue losses from mining operations and stalled forest clearances. They also recommended mobilizing resources to revive different sectors of the economy.

The cabinet also appealed to all State Government/PSUs/Boards/Universities employees to donate to HP SDMA COVID-19 State Disaster Response Fund to aid the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
